I am using the code below to split the string into elements on a list

seq2 = seqs.replace("n","")
list = seq2.split(">")
print(list)

from there I just remove the first item of the list since it is blank. But what I am trying to do differently is that I want to still split the list and remove all newlines(n) but I want to use the append function instead and end up with a list where I don’t have to remove any elements but I still have each sequence neatly separated. How would I do this?

FWIW, I think your existing solution is fine (and it’s probably faster than what I’m about to suggest), but if you want something that involves append rather than split and replace you could do:

The regex is composed of six group :

It is a basic regex so you would probably like to improve it a bit.
